Prepare yourselves for a shimmering performance by breakout US jazz sensation Samara Joy at this year’s Perth International Jazz Festival. Dubbed “a classic jazz singer from a new generation” by NPR, Joy has already collected five Grammy Awards since her eponymous debut album was released in 2021. Celebrated for her rich tone, refined phrasing and love and respect for the Great American Songbook, Joy is already being spoken of as the first of the Gen Z jazz vocal greats as well as successor to legendary vocalists including Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae and Betty Carter. For this performance, Joy will be joined by her outstanding seven-piece band. This Australian tour also celebrates her most recent album, Portrait, a heartfelt and sophisticated recording that showcases her growing artistry. Seamlessly blending the elegance of the golden age of jazz with a uniquely modern sensibility, Joy is an artist destined for stratospheric heights, making this Perth performance one not to be missed.
